Water controls Australia’s well-being, environmental health and economy. The Centre for Water Security and Environmental Sustainability (CWSES) is a strategic initiative that builds upon research strengths of ERA 5 groups. It brings together key researchers in Civil, Surveying and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences.

With a wide portfolio of National and International Partners, our objectives are to address key issues involving increasing pressure on water and the environment:

  • Climate change relative to natural variation
  • Impacts of climate variability and change in on water resources and landscapes
  • Optimal management of water resources and landscapes in the face of climate change, increasing population, and uncertain future pathways.
  • Landscape and mine rehabilitation

This work is underpinning new-generation management and policy tools that explicitly assess, in a multi-criterion setting the security and healthy functioning of urban and rural water systems. A critical element is the holistic and multidisciplinary approach that translates science into policy and decisions.
