Gender Matters: Designing health promotion approaches to engage men
During April 2018, The University of Newcastle (UON) was delighted to welcome visiting Fellow Dr Joan Bottorff, Director of the Institute for Healthy Living and Chronic Disease Prevention at the University of British Columbia.Celebrating 40 years of medicine at UON, the Faculty of Health and Medicine hosted Dr Bottorff, who explored potential research opportunities with the University of British Colombia, as well as presented her work on the development of gender-sensitive and gender-specific health promotion programs.

Leading UON researcher, Professor Brian Kelly, Chair of NIER's Centre for Resources Health and Safety has published an editorial in the June edition of The Australian Journal of Rural Health. As an internationally respected mental health authority, Professor Kelly has held a career-long interest in the psychosocial aspects of mental health in rural and isolated areas.
