The Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources established a research partnership worth $1 million over four years with global healthcare provider Aspen Medical to launch the Centre for Resources Health and Safety.

The Centre for Resources Health and Safety (CRHS) aims to address key healthcare challenges for the resources and mining industries and will harness expertise from across a range of disciplines within the University. Research areas will include occupational health and safety, respiratory studies, psychology, psychiatry, environmental impacts and social impacts.

The CRHS draws on the multidisciplinary expertise of University researchers spanning disciplines including workplace health and safety, psychology, psychiatry, respiratory studies and environmental impacts, to meet sector demand in this area and facilitate industry and government collaborations for the benefit of communities in resource intensive regions.

The CRHS continues to establish strong industry partnerships with leaders in the resources sector and is always looking to expand its research teams to address critical issues and resource sector needs through advanced research.
