Research Group Chlamydia (CRG)
The Chlamydia Research Group (CRG) is a major research group in the Discipline of Immunology and Microbiology. The group is funded by research grants from the NHMRC, the ARC, the HRC (NZ) and has substantial industry funding and is also part of the HMRI VIVA research group.
Major research projects carried out within the CRG include:
- Development of novel needle-free skin-based vaccine approaches to prevent genital and respiratory Chlamydia infections.
- Understanding how the innate immune response to genital tract Chlamydia infection contributes to the development of pelvic inflammatory disease and tubal factor infertility.
- Understanding the mechanisms underlying Chlamydia-mediated exacerbation of coronary artery disease.
- Understanding how chlamydial infection in neonates can exacerbate asthma attacks later in life (with Dr. Phil Hansbro, Prof. Paul Foster and Prof. Peter Gibson).
- Development of vaccines to prevent genital and ocular infections in koalas (with Prof. John Rodger)
