The University of Newcastle has a strong program of medical engineering research spanning applications including medical signal processing, image analysis, virtual reality in medical settings, artificial organs, precision mechatronics, personalised medicine and intelligent implants.
Our researchers are applying engineering expertise that draws from the disciplines of biomechanical engineering, electrical engineering and control systems, mechatronics and automation, computer science and data analytics.
Their medical engineering research touches on health issues ranging from stroke rehabilitation to orthopaedic implant removal, prostatectomy surgery, diabetes management, bone distraction and risk-taking behaviour in teenagers.
