Career Summary

Dr Cristelle Maurin is a Research Fellow at the International Centre for Balanced Land Use (ICBLU). ICBLU was established in 2016 as a joint initiative between The University of Newcastle and the New South Wales Government to provide independent, evidence based research to address the global challenges concerning energy, water and food security and the sustainable use of, and equitable access to, land resources. ICBLU harnesses research from disciplines such as engineering, environmental science, agriculture, anthropology, law and business across The University of Newcastle to provide integrated research solutions to better understand, support and drive systemic change towards sustainable land use in Australia and globally.

Cristelle's background is in law and international development. Grounded in law, policy and governance, her research engages with questions of social justice, environmental sustainability, large-scale societal transformations and the sustainable management of land resources. Her current research focuses on food security, human rights and the complex interlinkages between food systems, environmental and health governance. Cristelle is ICBLU's program lead on Land Governance and the Sustainable Development Goals, and she is establishing a Food Futures Lab to promote new thinking, networks, methodologies and practice for the transition towards sustainable food systems.
