Career Summary

Biography

Biography

Andy Devine is an interdisciplinary artist whose creative practice covers painting, printmaking and installations. His practice is focused on expressing the inherent desire to reconcile his geographic displacement with a need for a sense of belonging by drawing on formative experiences. His artworks are full of social and political content as well as being deeply personal explorations of the nature of dislocation and belonging, delivering what is a reflection of self. He is driven to represent myself in the landscape and through self-reflection convey memory, nostalgia, melancholy, and the enduring sense of loss.

He is an Associated Lecturer in Two Dimensional disciplines at the University of Newcastle, NSW (UoN) and has also taught at the Newcastle Art School, NSW (Hunter Street TAFE)

He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours 1st Class), the University medal and completed a Masters of Philosophy (Fine Art) from University of Newcastle in 2011 with the thesis, Conversation in Landscape, and an exhibition of the same title at the University of Newcastle Art Gallery at the Callaghan campus.

Artworks have been represented in various major gallery collections such as Newcastle Art Gallery, Maitland Art Gallery, Manly Regional Art Gallery, Muswellbrook Art Gallery, University of Newcastle collection and various private collections in Australia and overseas.
