The University of Newcastle offers many pathways and entry options to give you the best chance of getting into uni. Some relate to specific degrees, others include our free enabling pathway programs like Open Foundation and Yapug.
You don't necessarily need to have completed your HSC or received an ATAR to gain entry into university. We know that your other skills and qualifications are just as important.
Apply Direct
Year 12 Early Entry Program
Our free Early Entry Program means you can receive an offer from us before commencing HSC exams.
Non-school Leaver Direct Entry
Our free Direct Entry application, for non-school leavers, allows you to secure a spot at the University of Newcastle, without going through UAC.
Enabling pathway programs
Your guaranteed pathway to a University of Newcastle degree. Our Enabling Pathway Programs are free and will help you to develop the skills you need, not only to gain entry, but to find success at university and beyond.
Yapug
Yapug is a pathway program designed to enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to gain skills for entry into university while immersing them in Indigenous knowledge history and culture.

Entry programs
The University of Newcastle Law School (NLS) and the Joint Medical Program (JMP) offer Indigenous students the opportunity to gain early entry. Imagine having a guaranteed place in a Law program at the University before beginning your final HSC exams.
Credit-based pathways
Our Undergraduate Certificates and Diplomas provide a focused course of study alongside introductory skills required for further study. Upon completion you will gain guaranteed entry into selected degrees and receive credit for specific courses when you enter your Undergraduate degree.
