International Conference in India

Tuesday, 13 January 2015

Penny Crofts and Deb Hartman of the Family Action Centre (FAC) have been invited to be speakers at International Conference - Changing World - Changing Families: Diversity and Synergy in Mumbai, January 2015.

International Conference in India

It is exciting and indeed a privilege for the FAC to have this opportunity to contribute to important discussions about issues and directions for policy and practice relating to families in the Asian context.

Following the conference Penny and Deb wil attend the bi-annual meeting of the Global Consortium for International Family Studies (GSIFS) where they will work with colleagues from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai to progress the development of the Masters in International Family Studies.

The development of the field of Family Studies as a discipline is very important in India, particularly because rapid social and economic change, combined with significant and long standing poverty and inequality, means research, policy and practice developments are urgent. Penny and Deb are contributing by analysing the contested nature of academic fields to explore the status and development of the field of Family Studies, drawing on the Family Action Centre's efforts to advance the field of Family Studies in the Australian context.
