The Library welcomes Introductory Academic Program students

IAP students at the University of Newcastle Library

Australia Award Scholarship students are undertaking an Introductory Academic Program (IAP) including an intensive introduction to the Library. Students come from places as diverse as Mozambique, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam and the Philippines and IAP is designed to prepare them for study in Newcastle.

International Support Librarian, Cathy Bennett, introduces students to the Library and demonstrates key resources as well as revealing the secrets to developing faster, more effective research strategies.

'I enjoy working with the group,' Cathy says, 'because they are so interested in their learning and appreciative of any assistance given. IAP allows me to interact with students from many different cultures, and I feel I learn as much from them as they learn from me.'

During the four week course, students learn tips and tricks for finding scholarly research using the library catalogue, academic journals and databases, are introduced to services such as Getit and BONUS, and receive training in the use of ENDNOTE bibliographic software.
