UON welcomes Fulbright program in 2016
On Thursday 3 December 2015, U.S. Consul General Hugo Llorens, presided over the signing of a prestigious partnership agreement between UON and the Australian - American Fulbright Commission.
This partnership agreement reflects the close relationship between UON and the Australian - American Fulbright Commission. In the Consul General's own words, 'the Fulbright Program is the United States' flagship exchange program and is the most widely recognised and prestigious international education exchange program in the world'. The partnership is aimed at strengthening research impact and reach locally, nationally and internationally.
The agreement is for two new scholarships for the Fulbright Program, a Fulbright Distinguished Chair and the inaugural Fulbright Postdoctoral Scholarship.
The Fulbright Distinguished Chair will enable an exceptional U.S. senior scholar to undertake research of shared importance to Australia and the U.S. at UON for up to six months and will conduct a national lecture series in which the selected candidate will travel on the Fulbright Roadshow and present on topics in their field of expertise.
The inaugural Fulbright Postdoctoral Scholarship is aimed at researchers who have recently completed a PhD, enabling a U.S. scholar in any field of study to undertake up to ten months of postdoctoral research at UON.
As our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Caroline McMillen said at the ceremony, it is a great honour to be selected to partner with the Fulbright scholarship program. It is a strong reflection of our world-class research outcomes and our commitment to growing an outstanding research-intensive university in regional Australia.
The UON Fulbright Program will significantly assist the growth of our international networks and future collaborations. The area of expertise will be determined annually based on needs and areas of strategic importance to UON.
Further detail about the 2016 Fulbright Commission catalogue and application process will available published in March 2016. To learn more, please visit: http://www.fulbright.com.au/
