University of Newcastle top researchers attend Port Macquarie health conference
Rural health researchers and professionals will converge on Port Macquarie's Glasshouse Convention Centre next week for the University of Newcastle-sponsored NSW Rural Health and Research Congress.
Exploring how rural health services, research organisations and associated agencies use innovative solutions to address the health challenges faced by rural people, the congress will feature several expert speakers from the University of Newcastle, including internationally recognised health researcher, Professor John Rostas.
"Our Port Macquarie campus offers students a chance to gain first-rate qualifications in midwifery, nursing and education without having to travel too far from home or negotiate the pressures of living in a bigger city," said Professor Rostas, Deputy Head of Research, Faculty of Health and Medicine at the University of Newcastle.
"Hosting the congress in Port Macquarie enables our local students and teachers in midwifery and nursing to participate in an accessible, high quality forum which will support their learning and career objectives."
Built on the principles of equity, excellence and engagement, the University of Newcastle has a reputation as a world-class institution and is making an impact in the Port Macquarie region. Three hundred local students will graduate from the Port Macquarie campus in February next year, the tenth year the University has operated a local campus.
"We are ranked in the top three percent of universities world-wide and we have not yet turned 50," said Professor Rostas.
The University of Newcastle and TAFE NSW - North Coast Institute share the Port Macquarie campus. This multi-sectoral campus offers both University and TAFE programs to approximately 4,000 students and a number of joint services and facilities.Contact
