NeW Space Information Session
UON will this weekend host a community information session, where Hunter residents can view plans for the proposed NeW Space higher education facility.
Project managers will be on hand at Newcastle City Hall on Saturday 30 August to discuss the State Significant Development (SSD) Application, which is currently on public exhibition.
Members of the public will have the opportunity to explore the detailed NeW Space plans and reports, and gain an insight into how the project intends to support the new direction in teaching and learning for the Faculty of Business and Law, and the wider UON community.
UON Chief Operating Officer, Nat McGregor said NeW Space was an exciting opportunity to create a vibrant educational facility that would serve as a catalyst for the reinvention of the physical and cultural heart of Newcastle's Civic precinct, while also supporting the University's new teaching direction.
"In designing the new inner city educational precinct, the University wanted to develop a space that would provide engagement opportunities and enhance connectivity for the community, not just with our building, but with the surrounding infrastructure and open spaces," Mr McGregor said.
Mr McGregor said the NeW Space design involved placing students at its centre, and creating a space where they would want to spend time both academically and socially.
"It needed to create spaces where students and academics can meet and engage in a variety of formal and informal ways as well as areas for quiet reflective learning.
"The tertiary education sector's approach to teaching and learning is changing, and this new direction will enhance the skills of our graduates to better prepare them for a challenging regional, national and global labour market.
"This reform of teaching philosophies and practices will continue to drive dramatic changes in the physical environments in which students learn and engage in all aspects of their university experience."
