Bright futures backed by Greater Charitable Foundation scholarships
Three students from the University of Newcastle have had a life-changing start to the semester after receiving a scholarship from Greater Charitable Foundation.
These latest scholarships form part of the $150,000 Greater Charitable Foundation Equity Scholarships Program, which has supported five scholars facing financial disadvantage, helping to relieve stress and giving them the opportunity to make the most of their time at University.
Science and Mathematics student, Isaac Hill said receiving a Greater equity scholarship this year has given him hope for his time at university, which once felt like a goal that was out of reach.
“Throughout high school, I often doubted whether my financial situation would allow me to pursue this path, so it is a great relief to have my course fees for my undergraduate degree taken care of,” Mr Hill said.
“I am incredibly hopeful for the future of my time here at the University of Newcastle. It has been a great relief to begin managing and moving past the health challenges that once threatened to derail my studies, and thanks to the support I’ve received, I feel well-prepared to complete my degree strong.”
Greater Charitable Foundation spokesperson, Paul Juergens said the organisation is honoured to help make tertiary education attainable for students without worrying about how to make ends meet.
“Our scholarship program reflects our commitment to improving the financial wellbeing of our community, and we are really proud to help students achieve their goals in this meaningful way,” Mr Juergens said.

University of Newcastle Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Belinda Tynan said scholarships are key to education equity.
“We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to pursue higher education. For students experiencing disadvantage, a scholarship can be truly lifechanging – it helps relieve financial pressures and allows them to focus on their studies,” Professor Tynan said.
“We’re deeply grateful for the Greater Charitable Foundation’s generous support of our students. By working together, we’re opening doors for students to realise their potential.”
