Our Community, Your University Exhibition Launch
A unique multimedia exhibition, launching this Friday 25 September at Erina Fair Shopping Centre will celebrate a University of Newcastle double milestone: more than 25 years on the Central Coast and 50 years as a world-class higher education institution.
Premiering at the launch is short film – '50 People, One Question', shot on the Central Coast by Treehouse Creative and directed by former Sundance and Tropfest Film Festival winner, Jason van Gendren.
Filmed on palm-sized Fuuvi Bee 8mm Toy Digital Cameras, it poses one question – 'Why is education important to you?' and captures 50 unique Central Coast residents offering their perspectives on education, what it offers and where it can take you.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Andrew Parfitt said the exhibition was an opportunity to celebrate the many talented students, staff and researchers of UON Central Coast.
"UON Central Coast has been the world-class local university for the Central Coast for over 25 years, producing many talented graduates and high impact research.
"Through the Our Community, Your University exhibition we are delighted to reflect on a remarkable journey with the Central Coast community, who have helped make this milestone possible," said Professor Parfitt.
Associate Director - Campus Coordination, Linda Cooper said while the exhibition was a wonderful opportunity to take stock of how far UON Central Coast has come, the short film also inspired viewers to consider the bright future ahead.
"The responses captured as part of the short film really point to the tremendous opportunities generated through higher education, not just for the students who choose to study with us, but also for the region," she said.
As part of the launch, Alumni of the University will be invited to share in cocktail celebrations with UON Chancellor Paul Jeans and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Andrew Parfitt. This will be the first Alumni event held on the Central Coast, with plans for more in the future.
