Celebrating 40 years of medicine at UON, the Faculty of Health and Medicine will host Dr Bottorff, who will explore potential research opportunities with the University of British Colombia, as well as present her work on the development of gender-sensitive and gender-specific health promotion programs.

Dr Bottorff’s work focuses on understanding and incorporating men's preferences for and interest in health and wellness topics and activities, to ensure men are successfully engaged in health promotion programs.

Dr Bottorff is a co-investigator on research teams developing new approaches to promote men’s health, support lifestyle change across diverse groups and contexts, and support rural palliative caregivers.

Her research also focuses on novel interventions to strengthen tobacco reduction among women and men, and enhancing cancer prevention initiatives by targeting other health behaviours. She teaches courses in research methods, nursing theory and nursing education.

UON invites all staff to attend Dr Joan Bottorff's presentation on opportunities and approaches for supporting men’s health through tailored health promotion programs, as well as her insight on men’s responses to these initiatives at HMRI on Friday 20 April.
