Newcastle’s leading ‘easy listening’ radio station, which began broadcasting in March 1978, prides itself on community involvement; and is funded by listener donations and sponsorship from businesses across Newcastle and the greater Hunter area.

As it prepares to mark its 40th year, Ms Wright will bring her exceptional track record in media and broadcasting to take the station into the next era of its evolution.

Ms Wright was previously the Director of Regional Strategy for Nine Entertainment Co. and prior to this, CEO and Station Manager for the NBN Television group of companies.

Ms Wright also has a strong connection to the University of Newcastle, having served on the University Council from 2007 to 2018; and as a member of the 2NURFM Advisory Board from 2015 to 2018 and its Chair from April 2017 until recently.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Caroline McMillen, said Ms Wright was a highly skilled and respected senior executive and board director with expertise in providing leadership, strategic direction, change management; and an empowered people and culture environment.

“Ms Wright brings a unique mix of relevant and extensive industry experience, combined with knowledge of 2NURFM and an in-depth understanding of the strategic priorities for the University.

“These qualities, combined with her extensive knowledge, passion and connections with the region and its community, provide the University of Newcastle with a significant opportunity to shape the station for future success.”

In addition to her previous University Council role, Ms Wright has been a Director and Chair of a number of broadcasting industry companies as well as a Director of the Hunter Economic Development Corporation and Newcastle Airport.

Ms Wright said she was thrilled to be joining the University of Newcastle in such a unique role, which would draw on her knowledge and experience in media, broadcasting, strategy and the University.

“2NURFM, now in its 40th year of broadcasting, is a highly respected community radio station and I feel most privileged to lead and manage the business through its next phase of development, with the support of a most experienced and passionate team,” Ms Wright said.
