QS World Rankings by Subject

The University of Newcastle's (UON) Architecture and Built Environment discipline has debuted at number 40 in the world and 6th in Australia in the 2015 QS World University Rankings by Subject list, announced today.

In 2015 the University of Newcastle has been ranked in the world's top 200 universities for 15 subjects, up from 12 in 2014, including four in this year's top 100, up from three last year.

In all, six University of Newcastle subjects have achieved a first time ranking on the prestigious international list, published by QS, including five that made the top 200.

The annual QS World University Rankings by Subject is a comprehensive guide to the world's top universities in a range of popular subject areas. Using data on reputation and research citations and H index, the 2015 rankings feature a record-breaking 36 disciplines making it the largest ever ranking of its kind.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (International and Advancement), Mrs Winnie Eley, said UON's excellent performance in the 2015 QS subject rankings built on the University's growing global reputation for excellence in education, and research and innovation.

"UON consistently ranks in the top three percent of universities in the world and in the top ten universities in Australia for research intensity. The latest QS subject rankings recognise the achievements of our staff who work hard across a range of disciplines to engage as global leaders who drive world-class innovation in our community and region," she said.

"We congratulate our Architecture and Built Environment colleagues on the outstanding result of debuting in this international ranking at number 40."
