Premier’s Volunteer Recognition Program Awards

Three University of Newcastle volunteers were today recognised for their contribution to youth education and presented with the Premier’s Volunteer Recognition Program award by Member for Newcastle, Tim Crakanthorp.

Brian Atkins, Fiona Hilliar and Brian Marsden have worked with the Science and Engineering Challenge, a nationwide STEM outreach program presented by the University of Newcastle, to inspire students in year 10 to consider a future career in science and engineering.

Brian Atkins has worked for the Challenge since it began in 2000 assisting in many different ways. He works tirelessly to find sponsorship funds to host many local event days and plays a major role in coordinating the significant number of local volunteers, as well as arranging local official dinners.

Fiona Hilliar has devoted a great deal of time to the program since joining in 2000.  Fiona's role has been working with the training and development of the team and represents the program at official dinners and events.

Brian Marsden has been an essential part of the Challenge since its inception in 2000. Brian has a technical background which has helped to build and improve new activities and helped maintain and improve all the resources.
