Lucrative international scholarship

Up to five University of Newcastle students could be in the running for one of the nation's most lucrative scholarships to study overseas.

Lucrative international scholarship

Worth a maximum of $67,000 for one year for each successful applicant, the scholarships fall under the government's highly competitive New Colombo Plan international scholarships program, enabling students to undertake part of their studies in the Asian region.

Every Australian university has the chance to submit a total of five students for consideration. Based on personal merit, a total of 40 students will be selected for the 2014 pilot phase of the program. The program will be rolled out more broadly across the region from 2015 with a further $100 million funding committed between 2015 and 2020.

As part of the current government's commitment to fostering relationships in the Asian region, students can undertake study, plus an internship or mentorship, in one of four destinations - Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan and Singapore.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to extend our internationalisation efforts, and for students to benefit from the academic and cultural experience of studying with our regional partners," said Winnie Eley, Pro Vice Chancellor of International & Advancement at the University of Newcastle.

The University of Newcastle is now accepting expressions of interest from undergraduate students. To be eligible, students must be an Australian Citizen aged between 18 and 28, and have already completed at least one year of an undergraduate Bachelor's degree.

Students can check the full guidelines and submit their interest via: http://www.newcastle.edu.au/international/study-with-us/study-abroad-and-exchange/study-overseas/new-colombo-plan-scholarships

Expressions of interest should be submitted to the University of Newcastle International Office no later than 5:00pm Friday, 21 February 2014.
