Newcastle academics win $2.2 million to enhance maths and science teaching
A team of University of Newcastle teaching experts will partner with academics from five other universities on a $2.2 million project that will significantly enhance the training of mathematics and science teachers.
Funded under the Federal Government's Office of Learning and Teaching, the project will develop new interdisciplinary approaches to enhance maths and science pre-service teacher education and is part of the Australian Government's Investing in Science and Maths for a Smarter Future initiative.
The project will achieve an unprecedented level of collaboration between maths, science and education scholars to integrate their collective expertise to improve teacher recruitment, preparation and continued learning after graduation.
"This project will draw on experts in education, science and mathematics to drive a major improvement in the quality and quantity of mathematics and science teachers," said Post Doctoral Researcher Dr Judy Ann Osborne.
"It will support educators to collaborate on course design and delivery so that mathematics and science are taught as dynamic, forward-looking and collaborative human endeavours."
