Proudly welcoming CIFAL Newcastle to the family
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals seek to address global issues relating to gender equality, clean water and sanitation, climate action, and sustainable cities and communities.
To effect change, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) runs a growing network of international training centres, known as CIFAL*, around the world.
CIFAL Newcastle is now officially part of that network, after they signed a new cooperation agreement between the University of Newcastle and UNITAR, at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland this month.
CIFAL Newcastle is the first CIFAL centre to be established within a university (from its inception), and the first to be established in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. The University was thrilled to be selected by UNITAR to host CIFAL Newcastle, due to its leadership in innovative training on disaster management and emergency response.
CIFAL Newcastle offers training activities on disaster management and risk reduction, and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals at the local level. You can learn more about CIFAL Newcastle electives and short courses for students and professionals, via their website.
