Lucy Mentoring Program on the Central Coast
The Faculty of Business and Law has launched the Lucy Mentoring Program on the Central Coast. The commencement of the
2015 Central Coast-based Lucy Mentoring Program was marked by Session 1. This
introductory session provided mentors and student mentees with the opportunity
to meet for the first time. The event was buzzing as mentors and student
mentees discussed career objectives, insights, and pathways. Partnered mentors
and mentees established the activities the students will undertake during the
35 hours spent in their mentors' workplaces.
The Faculty of Business and Law has facilitated the Lucy Mentoring Program
since 2007. The program aims to address the inequities women face in the
workplace, such as the underrepresentation of women on boards and the gender
pay gap. The program aims to address the inequities through the mentor's
provision of career related experiences, coaching, and support, thus positively
impacting the student mentees' career planning and development by providing
career clarity and improving self-confidence.
The Faculty of Business and Law Central Coast-based Lucy Mentoring Program has experienced a significant increase in participation in 2015. A record number of Ourimbah-based female business and commerce students applied for the 2015 Lucy Mentoring Program.
The successful applicants have been placed with local professionals working in the students' areas of interest, including within the accounting, marketing, human resource management, and management fields. A large number of the placements were facilitated by Business Women Connect (BWC), a Central Coast based group of business people that provides its members with opportunities for professional development through guest lectures and networking events.
The Faculty of Business and Law expresses a warm thank you to BWC for its assistance in placing the students, and to all mentors for generously and graciously sharing their time and insight.
