Truc is an international student from Vietnam who has been living within Australia for the last three years whilst studying a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours).

Whilst studying, Truc was awarded the Academic Excellence Scholarship to remove some of the financial burden of studying internationally.

“I was so grateful to have become a recipient of the scholarship as not only did it mean easing off the financial burden of my tuition, but it also meant recognition from University academics to pursue my academic aspirations,” she said.

Truc recalls her feeling of excitement and shock at receiving the scholarship.

“I was flabbergasted at first, then I was absolutely proud and happy to be awarded such a prestigious scholarship at the University. I told my friends and couldn’t wait to tell my parents back home,” she said.

Receiving the Academic Excellence Scholarship provided Truc more opportunities in volunteering, academic performance, and networking.

“The Academic Excellence Scholarship encompasses not only the financial aid, but also a plethora of volunteering activities and networking events to interact with university academics and professionals from our chosen field,” she said.

Through the Scholarship, Truc was introduced to iLEAD and is excited to take part in the initiative to develop her leadership skills in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development goals.

“One significant event the program has included me in is the iLEAD experience which I am excited to take part in next semester,” she said.

Seeing the possibilities provided by the scholarship, Truc is taking this opportunity to focus on excelling in the field of  pharmacy to show potential employers her passion for the profession.

“Achieving this scholarship means I can become a better job candidate in the future, especially where clinical knowledge is of utmost importance.

“Employes will understand this merit-based scholarship is an accomplishment proving my passion for the profession along with the efforts I have put in to acquire competency in the field to provide better healthcare for patients in need,” she said.

Truc hopes to complete her Pharmacy degree with graded Honours and secure a Clinical Hospital Pharmacist position and optimise patient care through her experiences with iLEAD and placements.

“I would love to organise more patient-focused activities in hospitals including educational events on self-medicating and hospital-to-home transitions. The iLEAD program will be very resourceful to me for this,” she said.
