Michelle is approaching her Master of Business Administration with extensive experience in the Legal, Health and Finance industries in combination with over 30 years' experience in business admin. Michelle is taking this opportunity to further expand her knowledge and employability within the Human Resources field.

“I have also found that skills and knowledge I already had, have been deepened/expanded and updated. I have been surprised by how relevant these skills and this knowledge have been in my daily activities,” she said.

Having a busy schedule has not stopped Michelle from achieving her study goals to progress her career, with the flexibility offered to study.

“Participating in both online and face-to-face courses, is one of the things I loved about being able to study at the University of Newcastle, as there has been real flexibility of study options. This has been particularly helpful when I have battled with a challenging workload from time to time,” Michelle said.

Michelle recalls her study experience and enjoys the challenge it provides her whilst she can network with likeminded women in business.

“I have enjoyed being challenged and stimulated by the work. I have been involved in both the ZONTA Intl and the WiMBA programs, and found that the women involved, along with the female lecturers I have had, are inspiring, encouraging, and supportive.

“Studying helps me achieve my goal to provide excellent service in my workplace, and to the people I serve,” she said.

Studying at NUSpace has given Michelle a feel for the on-campus atmosphere and professional environment provided to students during their studies.

"I love the facilities, the environment, and the “feel” of the campus in there. On lecture night I will often leave work and go straight in, grab a coffee at the café downstairs while I read over my notes for the coming lecture, and enjoy that moment,” Michelle said.

Michelle encourages students looking to study postgraduate studies to explore their options, be organized and network for success.

“Investigate your options, explore the subjects available, talk to others doing it to get feedback, and put in an application…. see where it takes you! The other thing I would say is to be organized. Working full time and studying can be challenging, and the key to getting it done successfully, and still having a life, is to be organized.

“I would encourage women doing postgraduate studies to investigate any scholarship or support options available, but also to link in with the networks that exist to help support you,” she said.
