Passionate about design and the built environment from an early age, Myrrhine quickly set her sights on a career in the architecture field. After completing her undergraduate degree in Sydney, Myrrhine chose to enrol in a Master of Architecture at the University of Newcastle in order to gain further skills, knowledge and experience necessary to achieve her goals.

“While studying in Sydney I met some University of Newcastle alumni who spoke very highly of the Master of Architecture program,” Myrrhine says.

“Even before applying - I knew the degree was right for me. When visiting Callaghan Campus, I was immediately attracted to the quiet and green atmosphere surrounding the unique architecture studio. It seemed like somewhere I could independently focus on my study and be a part of a supportive community.”

Myrrhine graduated earlier this year and has enjoyed her time at the University despite completing a large portion of her degree online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The forced digitisation of my program was an unexpected blessing,” Myrrhine says. “It encouraged all students in the program to adapt and find new ways of communicating our final year projects.”

Myrrhine is now working as an Architectural Graduate and Visual Communications team member at Sydney design studio, fjmtstudio. Myrrhine says she was lucky enough to gain work experience while studying, which has enabled her to hit the ground running in her current role.

Myrrhine remains deeply interested in the field of design and says that completing post-graduate study has allowed her to further her skills and gain motivation to succeed in the field.

“Since graduating I have been able to assert my confidence in a professional environment. My positive results are a direct reflection of the wealth of knowledge and experience University staff hold along with care and sympathy towards all aspects of their students’ lives,” Myrrhine said.
