After holidaying in Australia in 2014, Damilola returned to her home country of Nigeria – always knowing she’d come back one day. Fast forward to 2017 and Damilola is back in Australia, this time around it’s to complete her Master of Business Administration and Master of Applied Finance.

Before deciding on a university, Damilola did intense research into what her options were, but she didn’t need to look any further when she found the University of Newcastle. It had the exact degree and lifestyle she was after.

“I absolutely love everything about living in Newcastle – the culture, beaches, shops, pubs, the random BBQs and picnics.

“The warmth you feel from everyone is unbelievable. I’ve never lived anywhere where everyone is so welcoming and friendly and studying at the city campus – that view is magical and breathtaking!

“I’ve always loved anything that required me to use calculations or mathematics, but I needed to grow beyond the conventional accounting world, I needed something new and exciting.

“Studying the double masters allowed me to get a deeper understanding of financial markets, strategies and planning while also learning about the world of business,” Damilola said.

With a desire to never stop learning, Damilola has embraced the opportunity to study in an environment that encourages students to push their learning boundaries.

“I study at NUspace where the facilities are catered towards the individual student needs. There are study rooms, group meeting rooms, even the library offers a very relaxing and comfortable feel.

“As a finance student, the University also has the Greater Bank Finance Lab where I’ve been able to use and understand software such as FACTSET. This has helped me analyse financial data for research, uncover business trends and complete assessments.

“Being able to use this software means I’ll already have some of the in-demand industry skills when I graduate,” Damilola said.

Looking to the future, Damilola has big goals.

“I hope to become a CEO someday. However, I do know we all have to start at a base. Knowledge is a passion of mine. Through my studies, I hope to be filled with knowledge, be able to pass on knowledge while also receiving knowledge from others,” Damilola said.
