Study by the sea, Newcastle provided Duanduan the ideal location to learn and live
Coming to the University of Newcastle from China through an articulation agreement program, Duanduan was keen to explore all aspects of university and Australian life and develop her skills through her Bachelor of Business. After graduating from the program, she decided to extend her stay and complete the Master of Marketing as well.
Duanduan’s time studying consumer behaviour and brand management courses inspired her to test out her skills in the workplace. She embraced the opportunity to do so through two internships and work placements – gaining valuable experience and learning new skills along the way.
“I completed two internships while at the University of Newcastle – a Glocal internship and China Connect internship. These opportunities helped me gain hands-on work experience and allowed me to use the techniques I learnt from lectures.
“I also completed work experience at UON Global as an international student support assistant and worked as a Project Officer at the Confucius Institute.
“It was an opportunity to apply what I learned in a safe environment where mistakes are expected. Those experiences helped me to know what kind of person I want to be and gave me the chance to experience Australian work culture, practice business and enhance my English communication skills,” Duanduan said.
Duanduan was also excited to have the best Australian experience possible and Newcastle definitely provided this opportunity. For fellow international students thinking about studying here, she couldn’t recommend it more.
“If you truly want to experience authentic Australian culture while practicing your English then come to the University of Newcastle!
“I study at New Space most of the time. The building is stunning, it has great teaching facilities and it’s close to everything and everywhere.
“I love the summertime at Newcastle. I often make myself an iced lemon tea and walk down to the beach enjoying the sunlight, I like trying new restaurants and cafes and walking to Nobbys Lighthouse on a cloudy day.
“This coastal city is liveable and beautiful and I’m sure the University of Newcastle team will help you to settle in smoothly,” Duanduan finished.

Duanduan moved to Newcastle to study her undergraduate degree and loved it so much she continued on to complete her postgraduate degree here as well.
