Equity, diversity and inclusion

Equity, diversity and inclusion are at the core of everything we do. We acknowledge, value and engage with the rich diversity of our communities, and seek to remove systemic barriers which contribute to inequity.

Equity, diversity and inclusion

A proud contributor to the University’s SAGE Athena SWAN Bronze Accreditation, we’re deeply committed to improving gender equality and diversity in all areas of teaching, research and services. We seek opportunities to nurture, support and inspire the next generation of women in STEM. Our HunterWiSE program is one of the many tangible examples of our efforts to boost female participation in STEM.

The University’s resounding commitment to Indigenous higher education, innovation and engagement is echoed in our College. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which our College facilities are located: Awabakal, Darkinjung, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.

Guided by The Wollotuka Institute’s Cultural Standards, we’re dedicated to increasing Indigenous student and staff representation, and building and strengthening new and existing partnerships with local Aboriginal organisations.

We understand that we are stronger when our differences are viewed as opportunities to learn and grow. We’re proud supporters of the University’s ALLY Network with staff and students from our College choosing to be active agents of change to challenge anti-LGBTIQA+ prejudice and heteronormative values.

We’re champions for diversity and inclusion in our teaching spaces and beyond. Whether it’s incorporating ergonomic furniture in our classrooms, arranging exam support or accessing an Auslan interpreter, we fully support the University’s AccessAbility initiative to ensure students with a disability or medical condition can succeed.

The College values inclusivity and diversity. If any issues arise that make you feel uncomfortable, please do not hesitate to raise the issue by contacting Associate Professor Vicki Keast, Assistant Dean Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at CESE-equitydiversityinclusion@newcastle.edu.au.
