Education

Within a rapidly changing research and tertiary education landscape, our College is committed to producing exemplary health care practitioners and researchers who can provide innovative solutions that will deliver better, healthier living for our communities.

We are excited by the opportunity to challenge, support and inspire our students through a learning environment that blends academic and professional training.

We support our students to be leaders in their field of endeavour and competitive on the world stage.

“My research work gives me a wide knowledge base upon which to design my teaching resources. This helps me to design meaningful, and hopefully interesting, classes for my students.”

Dr Melissa Tadros is an AdvanceHE Fellow and holds a blended research and education position, primarily teaching anatomy and physiology for undergraduate students.

Inclusive

We are committed to training health professionals and researchers from a range of backgrounds. This approach makes the most of the extensive skills, perspectives and networks that a diverse health workforce brings; drives innovative solutions to health care challenges; and encourages patients from diverse backgrounds to seek health care assistance.

Excellence

Our academic staff rank among the best educators and researchers in the country. We have achieved an esteemed profile through employing national and international leaders in medical and health sciences, all of whom are supported by fit for purpose infrastructure, governance and resources.

Integrated

Our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees use a combination of educational delivery modes including face-to-face, distance (both offshore and onshore) and mixed mode deliveries.

Our students use innovative and state-of-the art learning digitalisation to supplement their face-to-face lectures, tutorials and experiential learning gained through clinical placements and simulated learning environments.

Hands-on

Our degree programs are focused on the education of professionals. Our students are continually putting into practice the theory and hands-on skills they learn throughout their degree.

Students’ establish close practical links with their chosen field through Local Health Districts, private hospitals and community services, or through industry involvement. This means what they learn is truly consumer focused, relevant and practical.

Relevant

Our blended learning environment of discipline education and professional training produces graduates who are career ready and regarded as among the best in the country

Recognising achievement

We understand the importance of recognising the achievements of students who demonstrate outstanding academic ability and commitment to their studies.

Each year we award a number of College medals to students who have shown exceptional academic merit in their area of study.

College Commendation List

The College Commendation List recognises outstanding achievements of students undertaking an undergraduate program. If you are eligible, your placement on the College Commendation List will be noted on your academic record and will appear on your Official Transcript. It will also be recognised on the Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS) provided to you on the completion of your degree.

To be eligible for placement on the College Commendation List, students must have completed a minimum of 40 units and achieved a grade point average of 6.0 or a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 77, or equivalent for students enrolled in the Joint Medical Program, across all courses in a calendar year.

College Scholars Program

The College Scholars Program recognises high-achieving students in our undergraduate programs and incorporates a series of opportunities designed to support career development and professional leadership capacity.

The program provides scholars with networking and leadership opportunities, as well as personal and professional development.

To be admitted to the program students are required to:

  • Have completed at least one year of study in a nominated College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing degree; and
  • Be currently enrolled in a minimum of 20 units; and
  • Have demonstrated high academic success in your studies by achieving a GPA for the previous year of 6.5 (or equivalent in the case of the Joint Medical Program); and
  • Be listed on the College Commendation list (for the prior year).

Our aim is to prepare our scholars to be global citizens, leaders and change makers by providing opportunities for what the Lancet Commission term “transformative learning”.
