Research

We have a world-class reputation for excellence in research, with programs that span a broad range of disciplinary and transdisciplinary areas.

Our projects are diverse but united in ambition to inspire positive change in our communities, regions and the world.

We encourage collaboration between students, academics, and industry to solve real-world problems through facilities such as our Makerspace area within the Architecture Precinct.

Our internationally-renowned researchers drive discoveries that challenge conventional thinking, break new ground and change lives. Our research is deeply connected to the challenges and opportunities in our regions and beyond.

Research collaboration

We welcome opportunities to collaborate.  We work with industry, other institutes, and government partners to translate new knowledge into innovations that make a real difference – to our communities, our economy and our planet.

Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER) currently operates in collaboration with 19 hosted research centres and groups as well as 173 active industry partners. The ARC Centre of Excellence for Enabling Eco-Efficient Beneficiation of Minerals (COEMinerals) is a national collaboration of multiple universities and industry partners.

Our schools have established international reputations and formed strong, viable research centres and groups. We are increasing our industry partnerships in the Hunter region and beyond through applied research and development collaborations.
