Step 2 and 3 : Child Protection Awareness Induction Training and Child Protection update 2021 training

All Teacher Education Students must successfully complete the following Child Protection training modules prior to attending any school/service professional experience placement, school visit, observation or Teach Outreach volunteer activity.

  1. Child Protection Awareness Induction Training - This induction training only needs to be completed once. A certificate is provided on completion of this training. To access this training:
    • Go to NSW Department of Education MyPL website (the Department's professional learning platform) and register to obtain a MyPL account, username and password.
    • Once registered in MyPL, enrol in and complete the Child Protection Awareness Induction training module.
    • Log onto your SONIA online account and follow the steps listed on your SONIA online checks page to upload your Child Protection Awareness Induction Training certificate to SONIA.
  2. Child Protection update 2021 - Child Protection update training MUST be completed on an annual basis for the current year. A certificate is provided on completion of this training. This certificate is current for the year of issue ONLY. To access this training:
    • Go to NSW Department of Education MyPL website and log in your previously registered MyPL account (refer above).
    • Enrol in and complete the Child Protection update 2021 training module .
    • Log onto your SONIA online account and follow the steps listed on the SONIA checks page to upload your Child Protection update 2021 certificate to SONIA.

Teacher Education Students must take both their Child Protection Awareness Induction Training Certificate and Child Protection update 2021 with them to any professional experience placement, school visit, observation or Teach Outreach volunteer activity.
