Young Scholars/RHD Workshop and Scholarship

Workshop for Young Scholars / Research Higher Degree/ Early Career Researcher in co-operatives

On Thursday 12th December we will be holding a Young Scholars/RHD workshop and event. There is no additional charge for this event and morning tea and lunch will be provided. The workshop program will be finalised closer to the conference when we have received abstracts/ expressions of interest. The day will begin mid-morning and finish late afternoon in time for participants to join the Conference reception event at 6pm.

Opportunities for mentoring by senior academic

The workshop will be an opportunity for Young Scholars/RHD scholars to present their research in a friendly environment and be provided constructive feedback and support from senior academics researchers in the field. In addition, if you submit your full paper before 15 November 2019, we will also pair you with an academic mentor, who will provide you with specific feedback on your presentation and paper. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect to senior academic researchers with an interest in your field of research. Please note your full paper should be no more than 3,000 words, excluding references.

Dr. Mauritz Bonow Young Researcher Award

The ICA-AP Committee on Cooperative Research will bestow 2 best paper awards (US$ 500 and US$ 300) to young researchers (researchers not over 35 years of age), presenting their papers in the conference. (add hyperlink to http://www.ica-ap.coop/icanews/dr-mauritz-bonow-young-researcher-award)

How to submit your Abstract/Expression of interest for the Workshop

The abstract/expression of interest must contain:

  • Title of paper/poster
  • Name and title of lead and co-authors
  • Lead and co-authors institutional affiliations and emails
  • 3 to 5 keywords
  • Abstract (no more than 350 words)
  • A short reference section.
  • Please indicate preferred type of presentation (whether oral or poster).

To receive a student discount for registration you will also need to provide a letter of support from your supervisor and evidence of your RHD status (Masters, PhD) or Early Career (post-doctoral) status from your University/institution.  Upon acceptance of your abstract, a code will be sent to eligible students to enable registration at the discounted fee.

Abstract Submission Deadline: July 15th, 2019.

NB If your abstract is accepted for the Young Scholars workshop, you are also expected to present at the regular conference.

Scholarships for RHD scholars in co-operatives

The University of Newcastle will provide four (4) scholarships to cover the cost of registration and accommodation in Newcastle for 2 nights as well as attendance at the conference dinner (approximate value AUD $ 500). This scholarship funding is possible because of the generous support of University of Newcastle’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President Global Engagement & Partnerships.

How to apply for a scholarship

If you wish to be considered for one of the available scholarships for this conference please submit the following documents by email to conferencefbl@newcastle.edu.au and put: “Scholarship Application plus Young Scholar/ECR Workshop” in the email subject line

  1. Abstract for full paper (details outlined above)
  2. Letter of motivation (detail reasons why your scholarship application should be preferred)
  3. Evidence of your RHD status and
  4. A letter in support of your application from your supervisor at your institution or university.

The decision on the awarding of scholarships will be made by the Conference Organising Committee together with two members of the Scientific Committee and will be based on information available to the Committee at the time. Preference will be given to PhD/RHD students who will be travelling from Asia and Pacific Islands.

Travel grants from the ICA Asia-Pacific Committee on Cooperative Research (CRR)

We are happy to announce that a limited number of travel grants (up to a maximum of US$ 750 each) from select countries in the Asia-Pacific region are available for young researchers presenting their papers in the conference. The support will be facilitated by the ICA Asia-Pacific Committee on Cooperative Research (CCR) and is intended to fully/partially cover the costs of attending the conference. The grant will be handled via reimbursements. The Steering Committee of the ICA-AP CCR will shortlist the eligible candidates purely based on the quality of the research papers prepared by them.
