|Location||Caves Lecture Theatre, HMRI|
HCRA students, researchers and clinicians are invited to join us for the second Biomarkers & Targeted Therapies HEaPS Seminar of 2017.
Dr Paul Timpson
Laboratory Head (Faculty), Invasion & Metastasis
Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Sydney
We are pleased to have Dr Timpson joining us for this event to deliver an invited presentation 'Imaging tumour behaviour and drug targeting in live tissue: Insight from intravital biosensor imaging'.
Paul completed his PhD with Prof Margaret Frame at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research, UK in 2002 where he assessed the interplay between Src family kinases and the actin cytoskeleton during cancer cell invasion, focusing on the role of Rho family GTPases. He then moved to the Garvan Institute in 2003 to work with Professor Roger Daly investigating the role of the actin-binding protein cortactin in growth factor receptor trafficking in breast cancer and head and neck cancers.
After some time working abroad in the UK through an AstraZeneca Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, Paul returned to Australia to establish a research group in November 2012 within the Cancer Program at the Garvan. Paul aims to understand pancreatic cancer in the context of the surrounding environment using cutting edge imaging technology. Pinpointing the molecular drivers of cancer progression and the environmental cues that cause resistance to current systemic therapy are the focus of his research.
