HCRA members are invited to join us for the Implementation Science Flagship Program HEaPS Evening Seminar

Theme: 'Embedding research into routine cancer care'

HEaPS is a seminar that serves as a platform for HCRA associated Early Career Researchers and Higher Degree Research students (HDR) to present their work, gain critical feedback and to network with each other.

The program will feature presentations from:

  • Casey Hutchinson, 'Designing HAEM-Fit – an exercise and wellness program in the CMN Haematology Department’
  • Aoife McGarvey, 'Maximising screening and referral to physiotherapy after surgery for head and neck cancer: A translational study'
  • Merran Holmes, 'Prehabilitation for Major Upper GI Cancer Surgery'

HCRA also welcomes keynote speaker:

Professor Wiggers is the A/Director, Clinical Research and Research Translation, Hunter New England Local Health District, responsible for enhancing health service research and research translation by health service providers. In this role Professor Wiggers is responsible for building the systems and processes within the Local Health District to enhance the conduct of health services research for the benefit of patients and clients.

Professor Wiggers is a health services researcher, practitioner and policy maker with a focus on the prevention of obesity, smoking and alcohol-related harms, and the promotion of physical activity and healthy nutrition. This research has a primary focus on identifying strategies to increase the delivery of care addressing such risks by health care professionals as part of routine care delivery.

Professor Wiggers has been the Director, Population Health, Hunter New England LHD for the past 18 years. Professor Wiggers is also the Director of the University of Newcastle Priority Research Centre for Health Behaviour, and Co-Director of the Hunter Institute of Medical Research Public Health Program.
