Writing skills - academic learning support

These pre-semester workshops are designed to strengthen your academic writing skills and build your confidence. Two workshops per day will be held over three days (Monday - Wednesday) and sessions start at 10.30 am and 1.30 pm. Please see the full schedule below for more information.

Planning - How to understand what is expected and plan the task in manageable steps.

Monday, 8 February1.30 - 3.00 pm

Synthesis - How to synthesise evidence to show critical analysis in your writing.

Tuesday, 9 February10.30 am - midday

Reading - How to read efficiently and with critical purpose for your assignment.

Tuesday, 9 February1.30 - 3.00 pm

Paraphrasing - How to make notes in your own words to show understanding and express your argument.

Wednesday, 10 February10.30 am - midday

Argumentation - How to take a position, and structure a sustained argument that ‘flows’. (Essays are the focus.)

Wednesday, 10 February1.30 - 3.00 pm

Referencing - How to find the relevant details in a source and use the style guide to cite it correctly.
