Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The National Reconciliation Week 2020 theme 'In this Together' reinforces that we all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
To mark Reconciliation Week 2020, The Wollotuka Institute will be hosting a virtual event open to everybody in the University of Newcastle community.
Join us for our our live stream at 10am on Wednesday, 27 May on the Student Central Facebook page where Head of Wollotuka, Kathleen Butler will introduce the event, with music by Ray Bud Kelly. Afterwards we'll be launching our Reconciliation Week web page where there will be video messages from Vice-Chancellor Professor Alex Zelinsky AO and PVC Indigenous Strategy and Leadership Nathan Towney, among others.
There will also be a virtual cultural trail walk and Dr Raymond Kelly and project officer Kau Swan will speak about the important of sharing language and reclaiming identity and culture.
Head to the Student Central Facebook page to participate in the livestream.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
