Dr Kcasey McLoughlin and Blake Pepper will discuss highlights from the legal timeline leading to the YES vote for Marriage Equality in 2017 that forms the basis of the 'Waiting for Equality' exhibition at Watt Space in December 2019. They will also look beyond this landmark moment in history to critically interrogate the aftermath of the YES vote, examining the proposed religious freedom legislation and what this could mean for the LGBTQI+ community.

Dr Kcasey McLoughlin is a Lecturer at Newcastle Law School. Blake Pepper is a PhD candidate at Newcastle Law School.

This event is by The Waiting for Equality Project and is held as part of Pride Week (26 to 30 August), an annual week of events run by NUSA Queer Collective and NUPSA, celebrating the lived experiences and culture of LGBTIQ+ people at the University of Newcastle.
