Description
The Graduate Certificate in Marketing is designed to give students the opportunity to better evaluate existing and potential markets and to develop strategies that achieve organisational outcomes appropriate for the Australian and international business environment. Students will develop a solid understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of marketing and how they are applied in all contexts.
The Graduate Certificate and Master of Marketing have been developed for students with little or no background in the discipline or those wishing to upgrade their existing knowledge in the field.
Program learning outcomes
On successful completion of the program students will have:
- Effective oral and written skills to communicate complex marketing information to a variety of audiences.
- Effective independent and collaborative work skills to apply specialised knowledge and expert judgement to marketing tasks
- Critical thinking and analytical problem solving skills to be able to justify sound marketing solutions
- Specialised knowledge of theories, models and concepts relevant to marketing management and be proficient in their application
- Skills to apply relevant theories, principles and methodologies to research in marketing resource management

Admission information
Admission requirements
Entry into the Graduate Certificate in Marketing (40 units) will be available for applicants who have:
- 3 year Bachelors Degree; or
- 3 year Diploma in a related field; or
- 3 year Diploma not in a related field + 1 year relevant organisational experience; or
- 2 year Diploma in a related field + 2 years relevant organisational experience; or
- 2 year Diploma not in a related field + 3 years relevant organisational experience; or
- At least 5 years relevant organisational experience.
*related fields include accounting, business, commerce, communication, economics, finance, human resource management, industrial relations, management, or marketing.
Only after the successful completion of the Graduate Certificate students will be eligible to formally enrol in the Masters Program. They will, however, receive 40 units credit by virtue of the studies they will have already completed. Therefore they will be required to do an additional 80 units to complete their Masters Degree.
English Language Requirements

International students studying this program on campus are required to enrol full time to comply with their student visa requirements and complete their study in the standard minimum program duration. Transition arrangements
This program replaces program 11041. Any students who wish to transfer to the new program should seek advice from the Progam Advisor at programadvice@newcastle.edu.au. Students wishing to complete the existing program (11041) will be able to complete the program as all of the courses will still be offered.

Additional information
