Description
If you are an early childhood educator or an allied health professional with a desire to enrich the learning experiences of young children facing unique challenges then the Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Disability Support is the program for you.
The program is suitable for childhood educators working in inclusive contexts, or who wish to gain additional qualifications in the area of disability support. The program will enable qualified allied health professionals to understand and utilise educational strategies to assist young children with additional needs. The program provides theoretical and practical skills so you can cultivate a rich learning environment, supported by your specialised skills in diversity programming and adjusted learning activities which support individual students.
Program learning outcomes
On successful completion of the program students will have:
- specialised knowledge within a systematic and coherent body of knowledge that may include the acquisition and application of knowledge and skills in a new or existing discipline or professional area
- cognitive skills to review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge and identify and provide solutions to complex problems
- cognitive skills to think critically and to generate and evaluate complex ideas
- specialised technical and creative skills in a field of highly skilled and/or professional practice
- communication skills to demonstrate an understanding of theoretical concepts
- communication skills to transfer complex knowledge and ideas to a variety of audiences
- demonstrated the application of knowledge and skills to make high level, independent judgements in a range of technical or management functions in varied specialised contexts
- demonstrated the application of knowledge and skills to initiate, plan, implement and evaluate broad functions within varied specialised technical and/or creative contexts
- demonstrated the application of knowledge and skills with responsibility and accountability for personal outputs and all aspects of the work or function of others within broad parameters
- demonstrated the application of knowledge and skills to support children's communication skills and social interactions
- demonstrated knowledge and of, and an ability to analyse, early childhood curriculum theory and trends in early childhood educational practice

Admission information
Admission requirements
Entry into the Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Disability Support (40 units) will be available for applicants who have:
- 4 year Bachelors Degree; or
- 3 year Bachelors Degree; or
- Advanced Diploma or Diploma in a related field/discipline and 2 years relevant work experience; or
- Advanced Diploma or Diploma not in a related field/discipline and 3 years relevant work experience; or
- At least 5 years relevant work experience in a related field/discipline.
Related fields/discipline areas are:
- Teaching, Early Childhood Educator
- Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Social Work,
- Mental Health Care Worker, Community Care Worker, Disability Support Worker, Art and Music Therapy
English Language Requirements

Transition arrangements
Revised Program Requirements - Semester 2, 2022
The program requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Disability Support (GCECDS) have been revised and from Semester 2, 2022 students are required to successfully complete 40 units of core courses. Courses completed prior to Semester 2, 2022 will count towards the requirements of the program.

Additional information
Through the Pathways and Academic Learning Support Centre, students can access a free suite of NUPrep preparation courses as well as Academic Learning Support.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can draw on the assistance and support provided by the Indigenous Student Support and Development service through the Wollotuka Institute.
