Description
The Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program is a practice-oriented graduate business degree pursued by experienced employees wishing to learn alongside like-minded participants to advance their leadership, business and management skills. Participants will typically be team leaders, mid-to-high-level managers looking to broaden their knowledge base and skillsets, or those individuals in a technical position looking to advance into management. Their professional experience will allow them to add depth to seminar discussions by sharing work challenges and solutions and they are likely to flourish in a collaborative learning environment.
Delivered in an intensive 'block' study mode, you will be able to work and study to complete your Executive MBA in one year.
Program learning outcomes
On successful completion of the program students will have:
- Specialised knowledge of theories, models and concepts relevant to leadership and business management and be proficient in their application.
- Expertise in applying research principles and methods for the purpose of conducting substantial consulting/organisational projects.
- Cognitive, technical and creative skills to support the recognition, definition, analysis, and solving of complex organisational and business problems, successes, and more importantly, failures.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
- Critical analytical and decision-making skills that incorporate ethical, social and global issues in relation to managing people in organisations.
- Awareness of and openness to self-reflection and their impact on those they seek to influence.
- Effective interpersonal skills demonstrated through management/leadership capability and the capability to work effectively in teams to deliver expected outcomes.
- Professional proficiency in the utilisation of information and technology in business management contexts.

Admission information
Admission requirements
Entry into the Executive Master of Business Administration will be available to applicants who have:
- An undergraduate degree (AQF level 7 equivalent) or higher in any field of study plus a minimum of seven years relevant organisational experience, OR
- A minimum ten years relevant organisational experience, including three years in a management position.
Admissions are reviewed on a case by case basis. If you do not meet this requirement and wish to enrol apply for admission to the program please email emba@newcastle.edu.au
All potential participants will be required to attend an interview and submit an Admission Writing Task which will assist in establishing whether potential participants are committed to, and prepared for, this type of MBA program.
Please see the Interview and Writing Skills Rubric and Guidelines for Participant Employers (Sponsors) for further information. It is expected that organisational sponsors will spend approximately four hours per course with EMBA participants to assist their development and completion of work integrated projects.
The EMBA program is available to domestic participants only and intake will be by cohort with the intention that participants will be sponsored by their employer to attend. Sponsorship may take the form of funding and/or time off for study.

Additional information
Through the Pathways and Academic Learning Support Centre, students can access a free suite of NUPrep preparation courses as well as Academic Learning Support.
