Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Understanding

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Understanding Program has been developed by SBS, International Education Services and Carbon Media.

This program is designed to improve your knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This module will also foster a fairer, safer, and more respectful environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Using real video stories from interviews, animated education graphics and interactive activities, the program will provide you with an understanding to relate in your daily life - whether it's at the University, work, with friends, or at home.

There are 11 modules to complete the program and an activity at the conclusion. Each module taking about 5 minutes to complete. Once you have completed all eleven modules and the activity you will be issued with a Completion Certificate for your professional portfolio. Course completion time is approximately 55 minutes.

Students can access the course through your UONline account. To do this you:

  1. Login to UONline
  2. Go to the 'Blackboard' tab
  3. Go to 'Previous Sites' tab (2nd tab along the top) and enter ‘Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Understanding' into 'Search Other Sites'
  4. Below the Organisation ID, there is a grey drop-down arrow. Click on the arrow and select 'Enrol' followed by 'Submit'
  5. The course should now be available in your 'My Other Sites’.
