At UON we take pride in the achievements of our students who make a difference to UON life. The Student Engagement Awards is where we celebrate them. Student Engagement Awards categories

Campus Life Award

This award recognises a student who has shown an outstanding commitment to enhancing the experience of their fellow UON students. These students are the people who are active in a range of activities in and out of their chosen study area, and they help others to have a great time at UON.

Judging Criteria

The nominations for the Campus Life Award will be judged in terms of:

*          Leadership skills

*          Supporting their fellow students

*          Collaboration and engagement with different student groups

*          Development of new ideas and initiatives to improve student experience at UON


Volunteer of the Year

This will be a student who has generously volunteered their time to improve the student experience for fellow students on campus.

Judging Criteria

The nominations for Volunteer of the Year will be judged in terms of:

*          Demonstrated commitment as a UON volunteer

*          Quality of volunteering activities and engagement in the UON volunteer program

*          Positive impact on other UON students and/or external stakeholders


Student Entrepreneur of the Year

The Student Entrepreneur of the Year will demonstrate an ability to think differently and present new concepts, and has achieved impact in the areas of enterprise and innovation. The entrepreneurial activity may be a technological, social or a creative innovation.

Judging Criteria

The nominations for Student Entrepreneur of the Year will be judged in terms of:

*          demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset

*          active involvement in UONs enterprise and innovation ecosystem


WIL Achievement of the Year

This award is for an outstanding student achievement in work integrated learning (WIL) course as part of their studies.  The recipient will have engaged in meaningful and consequential workplace activity that has benefited their learning outcomes and career development as well as the partner employer or organisation.

Judging Criteria

The nominations for WIL Achievement of the Year will be judged in terms of:

*          demonstrated positive impact in the workplace during the WIL course

*          evidence of development of employability skills


Cadet/Intern of the Year

This award is for an outstanding student achievement in an intern or cadet program (including at UON).  The recipient will have engaged in meaningful and consequential workplace activity that has benefited their learning outcomes and career development as well as the partner employer or organisation.

Judging Criteria

The nominations for Cadet/Intern of the Year will be judged in terms of:

*          demonstrated positive impact in the workplace during their intern or cadetship

*          evidence of development of employability skills


Club of the Year

The Club of the Year Award recognises a club or society that works hard to engage students across UON, is active across the academic year and reaches out to a broad range of students.

Judging Criteria

The club/society nominated for Club of the Year will be judged in terms of:

*          Sound governance and leadership through a well organised and cooperative executive

*          Accomplishments of the club or society including membership and impact of events and activities

*          Collaboration and engagement within the UON community

*          Development of new ideas and initiatives to improve the student experience at UON


Global Citizen of the Year

The Global Citizen Award is to celebrate the work of an international or domestic student who has embraced global experience and diversity in their educational journey and who shares this passion with their peers.

Judging Criteria

The nominations for Global Citizen of the Year will be judged in terms of:

*          Demonstrated commitment to engage globally and/or encourage others to do so

*          Quality of global activities and engagement

*          Positive impact on other UON students and/or external stakeholders
