Watt Space

Watt Space is the art gallery for students of the University of Newcastle and is located in Auckland Street in Newcastle (opposite University House).  Exhibiting works only by current UON students the Gallery has an exhibition opening every three to four weeks – generally up to 30 each year.

The Gallery is always looking for volunteers to assist at exhibition openings so a current RSA is required for any volunteers wishing to take up these opportunities.  Exhibition openings are a great event to be part of, not only do you have a really exciting night but you also get to be part of the emerging artists scene.

This will be suited to people who like art and the creative rising talents of your fellow students.  It’s also a fantastic social activity!

University Gallery

The University Gallery has a volunteer program for students of the University of Newcastle, which offers training in various aspects of Arts Administration. This program is an enjoyable and valuable opportunity for students who wish to pursue a career in the Arts.

There are a number of ways to be involved including positions in visitor services, assisting with exhibition openings, public and educational programs, guided tours for visiting artists and gallery guests, researching the stories behind the University Collection and learning how to care for artworks.

Accreditation toward Museology projects and mentoring in this area is provided by the Art Curator in conjunction with the Program Coordinator.

This will be suited to people who is a student of Creative Arts or Design, or someone with a keen interest in the arts.

Revue

Uni Revue is a live theatre show which features comedy sketches, songs and performance pieces, written and performed by students, usually commenting satirically on current affairs and general student life.

Performances are at lunchtimes and evenings on campus during the Festival of Autonomy.  Volunteers will help backstage, with costume and set changes and Front of House with Ushering Audience members to their seats.

This will be suited to people who like meeting people, working as part of a team and have an interest in live theatre.
