Enabling to Undergraduate

Applying for an Undergraduate Program

Students who finished their Newstep, Open Foundation or Yapug at the end of Semester 2 2018 are able to apply for free, direct to UON, for an Undergraduate degree*.

Final Round applications for Semester 1, 2019 are now closed. Applicants that successfully lodged an application by 21/01/2019 will have their outcomes released from Thursday January 24 2019.

Offers will be sent to your preferred email address - please keep an eye on your inbox, clutter and junk folders. Your preferred email address is the one you have nominated as “preferred” in MyHub. You will have 7 days to accept, decline or defer your offer before it lapses.

Some degrees reached capacity and were full prior to the Final Round of applications and therefore no further offers will be made to some degree programs. See 'Quota Programs' below for more information.

*Students applying for B Music and B Music / B Arts are also required to complete the additional entry requirements before we can assess their eligibility for a place in these programs. Applicants should complete the Music Selection Process as early as possible so that we can assess your application. Students wishing to transfer to our Bachelor of Medical Science/ Doctor of Medicine (Joint Medical Program) or our Bachelor of Midwifery program were required to apply through UAC, however applications for these programs are now closed for 2019.

Please do not lodge one of these direct applications AND a UAC application as at the point of offer they may cancel each other out. If that happens you may need to re-apply in a later round and at that stage you run the risk of us not having places available in the program you would like to study.

Students who were not able to apply by the closing date of the final round may contact admissions@newcastle.edu.au if they wish to request to have a late application considered. Enquiries and requests for consideration should outline the reasons why an application could not be lodged on time.

Important Information

  1. Click on the 'Apply Now' button above to access the application form.
  2. Complete the form, selecting up to 3 preferences. You don’t have to select three preferences, but it’s a good idea to have a back up plan in case you don’t meet the admission criteria for your first preference.
  3. There will be a section in the application where you can attach any other relevant documents - see 'Supplying Additional Qualifications' below.
  4. After you have entered all relevant information, selected your preferences and uploaded any additional documentation, make sure you press the submit button before 11:59PM January 21 2019 to be considered for Final Round.

After you submit your application you will receive an email confirmation to your preferred email address providing details of your application including the preferences you selected.

Educational Access Scheme (EAS): If you have experienced long-term educational disadvantage that has seriously affected your UON Enabling studies, please read the EAS booklet for the seven broad categories recognized and consider applying for EAS circumstances. Applications are to be lodged directly to UON using the EAS application form along with your supplementary evidence. Completed forms and supporting material should be attached to your UON Enabling to Undergraduate application.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Entry Scheme – if you identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander you may be eligible for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Entry Scheme. Please visit our website for details. During the application you will be asked if you would like to be considered as part of this scheme, and if you select 'yes' you will be invited to attend an interview with The Wollotuka Institute at one of our campuses.

If you have other assessable qualifications that can be used to generate an admissions rank, you have the option of attaching them to your application. Examples of qualifications that can be used to generate a rank include:

  • Certificate III
  • Certificate IV
  • Diploma
  • Advanced Diploma
  • STAT Test Results
  • Tertiary Preparation Certificate
  • Undergraduate Study at other Universities

If attaching qualifications to your application, please ensure you include any certificates of completion, as well as relevant transcripts. Please note that we can only accept colour copies of original documents, or copies that have been certified.

We will review any qualifications and incorporate them in the assessment of your application where applicable. Don’t worry if you don’t have any additional qualifications - most students don’t and we primarily just use results from your Enabling studies.

Once you have submitted your Final Round application, you can change your preferences, add documents, or cancel your request by completing the following steps:

  • Log in to AskUON
  • Click on My Account on the right hand menu
  • Scroll down to the My Applications section
  • Click on your application to open it
  • Make any changes then resubmit your application

All changes to your Final Round application must be made by 11:59PM January 21 2019.

The following UON degrees have high demand and limited places, with more people applying than the number of places available. These are referred to as 'Quota Programs', and admission to these degrees is closely managed.

The following Quota Programs are now full and cannot be selected on the Final Round application form:

Final Round applicants are still able to apply for the following Quota Programs, however it is possible that these programs will become full when Round 2 applications are processed on January 10 2019:

If you plan on selecting a Quota Program as your first preference in Final Round, we recommend choosing a program from our Guaranteed Admission list for your second or third preference as back up.

We take the grades you achieved in your Enabling studies and convert that to an admission rank. We then compare that rank to the admission rank required for entry to your first preference. If your admission rank is equal to or higher than the rank required for your first preference, we will make you an offer to your first preference via your preferred email.

If your admission rank does not surpass the rank required for your first preference, we will then compare your rank to the admission rank required for entry to your second preference. If your admission rank is equal to or higher than the rank required for your second preference, we will make you an offer to your second preference via your preferred email.

If your admission rank does not surpass the rank required for your first or second preference, we will then compare your rank to the admission rank required for entry to your third preference. If your admission rank is equal to or higher than the rank required for your third preference, we will make you an offer to your third preference via your preferred email.

If you don’t meet the rank for any of your preferences, we will be in contact to discuss our guaranteed offer scheme (please see details below).

Please note that for B Music and B Music/Arts we also require results from the additional entry requirements before we can assess your eligibility for an offer. For this reason, it may take longer for us to make offers to students applying for these programs. You should complete the Music Selection Process as early as possible to allow us to assess your application and get your offer out on time.

We will email and let you now if you were not eligible for any of your preferences. If this happens you can lodge another application for the Final Round with different preferences, perhaps including a program from our guaranteed offer scheme below. At the end of the day all of our successful enabling program graduates are guaranteed an offer to a select number of degrees, so there will always be an option for you to study an undergraduate program at UON.

Final Round applicants will not have the option of submitting another application in a later round, so it is strongly recommended that you include a degree from the guaranteed offer scheme in your preferences.

Unfortunately if you do not successfully complete your enabling studies we will be unable to offer you a place in one of our undergraduate degrees. In this situation we recommend you contact the English Language and Foundation Studies office on 1800 353 775 to discuss your options.

Guaranteed Entry

Don’t forget that students who successfully complete one of our Newstep, Open Foundation or Yapug programs have guaranteed admission to the following programs in 2019:
