The University of Newcastle's DJ Comp is making a triumphant return for 2020, determined to round up DJs of all styles, genres and skill levels.
Never touched a turntable, or a bit rusty? We're holding beginner's workshops to get you into the game
The Comp is open to all current students of the University of Newcastle.

Our aim is to have events that are representative and inclusive of our diverse student populations.
We encourage involvement from students regardless of their age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, ability, sexuality, and gender; including trans students (binary and non-binary), unless specified.

Judging
A panel of judges will assess each entrant based on established criteria:
- Mixing - beatmatching, volume control/eq, phrasing, transitions
- Song choice - appropriateness, Freshness, Unique, interesting
- Stage presence – comfortable & confident on stage
- Set structure - beginning/middle/end
- Flair - showmanship/technical skills and techniques
- Audience engagement – well supported, encourage audience to enjoy music
Penalty points may be applied where an act fails to follow directions or is uncooperative
Equipment
The University of Newcastle will provide 3 x CDJ 2000s and a DJM900 mixer.
An entrant may use their own decks if preferred.
If you wish to do so, please advise the organisers by email to student-life@newcastle.edu.au to arrange this. DJs must mix live.
Prizes
The winner at the Grand Final will be offered a paid headline set at Bar on the Hill (date TBC), plus a Press Pack - including photos, logo and a livestream set. Press Pack courtesy of Avid Entertainment.
All finalists will get paid gigs at University events and parties and all other participants will be considered for potential opportunities throughout 2020/21.
