Student bodies and associations

There are several bodies and associations that help students while studying at UoN.

Newcastle University Students Association (NUSA)

NUSA is the association run by students for students and its core role is student representation. NUSA provide a range of services including independent grievance advice and advocacy; clubs and societies; activities and events; assistance with collective organising; computer services; health and welfare services; and independent student media with the Opus magazine. NUSA also provides a free all day breakfast service with microwaves and kitchen facilities and a free BBQ lunch every Tuesday and Thursday.

Newcastle University Postgraduate Students Association (NUPSA)

NUPSA is the universal representative association for all postgraduate students. NUPSA supports postgraduate students with issues of concern and represents postgraduate students on a number of University committees, working parties and sub-committees. NUPSA conducts seminars and workshops during the semesters and hold social activities which provide networking opportunities as well as the chance to raise issues with the NUPSA Executive. Honours students are also invited to attend NUPSA events and workshops.


Yourimbah is the student association at the Central Coast campus at Ourimbah. Yourimbah provides a range of services and facilities including food and beverage; entertainment; sport and recreation; representation and advocacy; and welfare.


Newcastle University Sport (NUsport) is the peak sporting body at the University. NUsport aims to promote sport as an essential part of life and facilitate sporting, fitness and recreational activities that help you keep fit, make friends and have fun while studying at UoN.
