UON's award winning Green Week is back this year to once again turn the spotlight on sustainability. Students at Callaghan, NeW Space and Sydney can expect a variety of great events and environmentally friendly initiatives.

Everything we do has an environmental impact. The good news is, you have a choice in the kind of impact you make. Check out some of the green initiatives on campus.

Bring your own coffee cup and you’ll get a discount from some of our coffee vendors on campus. You're saving money and helping reduce the estimated 3 billion coffee cups going straight into landfill each year in Australia!

Pot-a-Herb

What: Plant your own herbs and take them home for free.

When: 11.30am - 1.30pm

Free lunch

What: Enjoy warm and hearty soup with some ingredients harvested from our UON Community Garden.

A Plastic Ocean film screening

What: Samantha Cross, Director of Cross Connections Consulting, is working with the University to implement a three month trial of soft plastics recycling. She will give a short presentation before the film screening. The film, A Plastic Ocean, documents how plastics, once they enter the oceans, break up into small particulates that enter the food chain where they attract toxins like a magnet. These toxins are stored in seafood’s fatty tissues, and eventually consumed by us.

e-Waste Collection

What: Clinging to that fried hard-drive from years ago? We will be running e-waste collection bins so you can dispose of old e-waste in a safe way for free.

When: 11.30am - 1.30pm

Basic Bike Maintenance Workshop

What: Learn how to provide maintenance to your bike, including changing a tyre tube, adjusting brakes and roadside repairs, as well as essential pre-ride checks to make sure your bike is running smoothly and safely. One lucky attendee will also take home an 18 piece home mechanics tool kit.

When: 12pm - 1pm

Community Garden Party

What: A fun filled day of music, planting, giveaways and interesting ways you can get involved in some green initiatives at home, at uni or within your local community. There will also be food made from some of the produce from the community garden - built and maintained by your fellow students.

What: Ever wondered what sort of wildlife lives on Callaghan campus? Get your torches ready and let's find out.

What: Join your Landcare community to plant new trees along the Birabahn Cultural Trail. Wear covered shoes, gloves and tools will be provided.

What: Give some coffee cups a new life by adding life.

City Gardening Workshop

What: Learn how to utilise your balcony or small city garden to grow food, plants or even look after a worm farm. This will be run by Cameron Little from Sustainability Systems.
