Description

This course provides a broad comprehension of music technology as utilised throughout the creative industries. It considers computer software and hardware pertinent to the field of music and addresses information technology structures and fundamental music technology principles. The course examines practical applications and contemporary practices including online and mobile music making.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the core areas of music technology;

2. Exhibit technical aptitude at a level suitable for postgraduate study in music technology;

3. Configure computer software for use in music applications and demonstrate a logical approach to problem solving;

4. Understand approaches used by music software;

5. Be familiar with creative applications of music technology;

6. Demonstrate an ability to use email, access web-based resources and to participate in electronic discussion groups.


Content

Topics may include (but are not limited to):

  • An assessment of different functions and approaches of music/audio software  
  • Online digital audio software and resources 
  • Approaches to creative applications using music and technology 
  • Outworking music technology in related fields including online and mobile music making
