Course handbook


This course will involve the student undertaking preparatory work for producing an Honours thesis in Japanese studies under the supervision of an appropriate member of staff.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of specific issues and concepts relating to aspects of their chosen fields in an area of Japanese studies.

2. Make appropriate use of materials and sources relating these issues; and

3. Prepare a research thesis in an area of Japanese Studies.


The student will consult their supervisor, determine their research topic, compile a bibliography, critically evaluate the existing studies, and form their own understanding of the topic.


This course is only available to students enrolled in Bachelor of Arts (Honours)

Assumed knowledge

A successfully completed undergraduate degree with a major in Japanese with credits or above at 3000 level, or equivalent.
